Fall 1994: The Roof

September 1994:

With second floor walls up, we moved onto roof trusses.

The trusses were loaded onto the second floor directly from the truck. It was no fun getting them all up there.

In addition to the trusses, there was lots of stick framing for the ladders on the gable ends and master bedroom bay window roof.

Peter Oldytowski is squeezing in the access.

We left out a strategic piece of plywood for access to the second floor.

Almost Ready for Shingles

The month of September was spent trying to get the roof decked with plywood and ready for shingles.

June hard at work painting facia boards.

It is looking like a house.

By the end of September, it was starting to look like a house, albeit with no windows.

With the trees turning, we were now in a race to get shingles on before winter. I was getting quotes from contractors to shingle the roof but ultimately decided to do it myself (with what friends I had left).

In this picture, is Ed Allen (BIL), Paul Viens (BIL), and Joe Forbes.

We shingled through October, November and on into early December. We did get it shingled and partially house wrapped just as winter hit.

Ready for winter

The house was dried in, I did put a window in the basement so that was closed up, it was done enough for winter.

Running out of nails.

We called it for 1994, it was a grunt but we got it done.
