Summer 1994: Excavation and Foundation

 June/July 1994:

After removing the required trees and harvesting the wood, we were able to get Acker excavating to come and do the site work for the foundation. Chris Acker did work for us at our Hinesburg property and is very good and fair. I was happy that he would come all the way to Addison from his Monkton business.

Chris cutting the driveway and house site.

Emily always looking for the camera.

Forms are in and ready for concrete.

We contracted Tri-County Foundations, Greg Basaw, to do our foundation.

Stepped Foundation

Once the foundation was poured we put tar on the foundation. There is no outside the foundation insulation, it just was not a thing in 1994.

It is a stepped foundation with a walk out door on the lower side.

Mixing concrete for the Porch Footers

I mixed and poured the footers for the porch by hand.

Porch Footers borrowed from brother Tom

The porch footers are each 5' tall 2'x2' bases.  The forms were built by brother Tom.

Fireplace Foundation

We also planned for a future fire place. I also built this by hand with cinder blocks, of course Emily helped, because there was a camera.

By the end of June we had the site excavated, and the foundation poured. We celebrated on the 4th with friends at the lake.
